Mixing (Reconstitution) & Storage


Peptides are comprised of fragile amino acid bonds that can be broken by rough handling. Therefore, gentle handling during and after reconstitution is critical in order to preserve the integrity of their effects. Before reconstitution, melanotan peptide vials should be allowed to come to room temperature.



Mixing (Reconstitution)

Up to 10mg of any Melanotan Labs™ peptide can be dissolved in 2 milliliters (mL) of bacteriostatic water. To prepare, gather the following materials: Melanotan Labs™ peptide vial, sterile Bacteriostatic Water, Insulin Syringe (1cc), Alcohol swab.

Example Melanotan 2 Step-by-step reconstitution instructions:

1  Remove the peptide and bacteriostatic water vial caps.

2  Wipe each vial's rubber stopper top with the alcohol swab to ensure sterility.

3  Take the 1cc insulin syringe and pull back the plunger to the 1cc mark. Next, insert the syringe into the bacteriostatic water vial and push the plunger all the way down, injecting air into the vial. This helps to balance the pressure inside the vial, making it easier to withdraw the water.

4  Turn the bacteriostatic water vial upside down and pull back the syringe's plunger to the 1cc mark, allowing it to fill. Remove the syringe from the vial.

5  Next, insert the filled syringe into the Melanotan 2 vial and inject the water inside. IMPORTANT: perform this action very slowly; also, aim the water at the side of the vial and allow it to gently trickle down to the bottom. DO NOT directly squirt water into the powder.

6  Repeat steps 3-5 to add a total of 2cc of water to the Melanotan 2 vial. (Note: 1cc is equal to 1mL)

7  Lastly, swirl the Melanotan 2 vial gently in order to dissolve any remaining powder into the solution. DO NOT SHAKE. Again, careful handling is critical.

The Melanotan 2 is now reconstituted and ready for administration.



Storage

Once melanotan peptides are mixed in aqueous solution, they have a limited storage life. Although melanotan can be safely stored for months in lyophilized powder form, once reconstituted, it remains potent for no more than 10-14 days.

After reconstituting melanotan, it MUST be refrigerated at temperatures under 4 degrees Celsius (39 degrees Fahrenheit). Additionally, the solution should be protected from light. Do not store reconstituted peptides in the freezer. Any remaining solution should be used in the next 2 weeks, after which the peptide is likely too degraded to be effective, even with proper refrigeration, and should be disposed of.

Conversely, in lyophilized powder form, melanotan can be stored for many months while maintaining potency. Although lyophilized peptides are stable at room temperature for several weeks, for long-term storage, melanotan should be kept in a freezer at -20 degrees Celsius (-4 degrees Fahrenheit). However, for storage longer than 2-3 months, colder temperatures are preferable: down to -80 Celsius (-112 Fahrenheit) can maintain potency for a year or more. Regardless, it is important to avoid repeated instances of thawing and refreezing, as this can damage the peptide.

As previously stated, it is important to let the melanotan peptide vial come to room temperature before opening to reconstitute. This helps to prevent moisture contamination. Additionally, the lyophilized powder should endure minimal exposure to the air, so the vial should only be opened immediately before reconstitution. Excess air exposure can cause oxidation damage.
